Keyboard shortcuts, as long as you can remember them, are a real time-saver.
Instead of opening a menu and choosing a command, you can simply press two or
three keys at the same time and get the same result.
NotateIt offers numerous keyboard shortcuts for giving commands, but
if your favourite command doesn't have a shortcut key, you can make one.
Don't worry about making mistakes. You can always restore the original
shortcuts by clicking on the 'Reset All' button.
You might like to print out or view a list of current shortcuts before you
start making your changes. You can do this from the NotateIt
program. On the menu bar, click on Tools | Shortcut Map.
* To add a shortcut
The 'Categories' box lists menu names in a drop-down list.
Select one of these names and a new list of commands for that menu name are
displayed in the 'Commands' box.
Click on the command you want to assign a shortcut to.
If a shortcut has already been assigned to this command, it will be shown in
the 'Current Keys' box.
Click in the 'Press New Shortcut Key' box.
Enter the actual key combination you want to use for your shortcut. For
example, if the combination you require is Shift+Ctrl+B, hold down Shift, hold
down Ctrl and press B. Don't type it out in words!
The words "Currently Assigned To" and a command name appear if the keys you
selected have already been assigned to another command.
When you are satisfied that your shortcut is correct, click the 'Assign'
button.
* To remove a shortcut
In the 'Commands' box, find the command you need to remove the shortcut from
and click on it.
Select the keyboard shortcut in the 'Current Keys' box and click the 'Remove'
button.
* To restore original shortcuts
Click the 'Reset All' button to restore all of the original NotateIt shortcuts
and remove all the shortcuts you have created.
